Boeing
B-52G 58-0225 "Mohawk Valley" landed at Griffiss AFB for the
first time on January 12, 1960, just 7 days after being completed by
the Boeing Aircraft Corporation at Wichita, Kansas. Thirty-one years
after rolling off the assembly line, the "Mohawk Valley"completed
her flying days on May 9, 1991 piloted by Col. Mike Loughran, 416th
BW's Commander. The aircraft has logged more than 12,400 flying hours,
including a combat tour over Vietnam in 1973. Last assigned to Castle
AFB, the "Buff" returned to Griffiss to be placed on static
display. The name "Mohawk Valley" was on 225 when it first
arrived at Griffiss AFB and the mission markings from the persian gulf
war symbolize the wing's B-52Gs in that conflict.
"Today, the "Mohawk Valley" stands in tribute to all
the men and women who dedicate their lives to the defense of our country."
