The
USAF Weapons School, headquartered at Nellis AFB, NV. teaches graduate-level
instructor courses, which provide the world's most advanced training
in weapons and tactics employment to officers in the USAF. The Weapons
School provides weapons instructor academic and flying courses on
many types of aircraft in the USAF inventory, including the A-10A
"Warthog".
In
May 1981, the Fighter Weapons School was reorganized and all fighter
squadrons at Nellis AFB were deactivated with each aircraft organized
into a "Division" within the school. The Division provides
the A-10 Fighter Weapons Instructor Course at Nellis AFB, NV. As
a result of lessons learned, Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) and
Night Vision Goggles employment has been incorporated into the course.
Throughout
the year, the A-10 Division performs off-station training in different
locations across the United States. In May 2003, the A-10 Division
deployed to Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield in Fort Drum, NY. Six A-10A
and sixty maintenance personnel from the 57th Wing operated from
the FOL for a two-week period of training with pilots from other
Warthog units from the Northeast United States, such as the 111th
FW/ PA ANG and the 175th Wing/MD ANG.
I've
had the pleasure to visit the FOL during this deployment and bring
back the following photos on this page.

Thanks
to the folks at the FOL for the support! |
